Jim has been practicing law for over 40 years. He specializes in real estate and commercial finance transactions. During his career he has represented state and national banks, savings banks, credit unions, equipment leasing companies and private lenders documenting and closing a wide variety of loans. He has deep experience in construction lending, equipment financing, asset-based lending and tax-exempt financing for single lenders and on syndicated loan transactions with multiple lenders as well as loan participations. Jim is also certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association as a Real Property Law Specialist and he has represented for-profit and non-profit owners, developers, managers, contractors in purchases, sales, development, construction and financing transactions, including agency loans HUD, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as well as various life companies. He has been active in commercial real estate leasing on behalf of landlords and tenants. When the economy requires it, Jim has also been actively involved in workouts for lenders and borrowers. Following a clerkship with the Minnesota Supreme Court, Jim joined Briggs & Morgan and several years later spun off to help establish the Fabyanske firm. In 1989 he started Christoffel & Elliott, P.A. where he practiced for over 34 years. Most recently, Jim elected to combine his practice with GDO Law.
